Sleek and simple co-ords!

Want to give your wardrobe a style makeover, then follow these guidelines by our fashionistas.

If you’re on the lookout for ways to give your wardrobe a refreshing spin; look no further than the co-ords trend, this season. They’re chic, versatile and super easy to style. If you’re at a crossroads and could do with some assistance, you’re on the right page. We get city designers and fashion entrepreneurs to lay down the rules.

“The safest bet on co-ord sets is to go for monochromatic looks. One thing to keep in mind is when these co-ords have prints or patterns, try to check if it suits your body type. For instance, if it’s a horizontal striped co-ord set, it mostly won’t work for people who are short or not too slim as it won’t accentuate their strengths,” avers Samskruthi Girish, a Bengaluru-based luxury fashion blogger, who further adds, “The biggest advantage with the trend is that it can be formal as well as casual all depends on the occasion and it can be styled accordingly.”

The easy breezy trend is the perfect bet, albeit it is thoughtful styling, which makes all the difference. “Be it for the gym, a friend’s wedding or a work meeting, investing in co-ords is like buying an already styled look – it makes your outfit cohesive without a ton of effort. You can wear the two pieces separately too, pairing them with the rest of your wardrobe to create a different look every single time,” begins Tanvi Malik, co-founder of a fashion brand. For newbies, who’re yet to muster up the courage to go all out with bold colours, pastels might be a great option says city designer Brunda Gowda. “Start with a pastel or neutral colours and then you can experiment with bolder colours and prints. Two-piece sets can be a top and pants or a ruffle skirt with a crop top or bralette. Mustard yellow, neon, ruffles, ruching and stripes are some trends that are in. Invest in a style you are comfortable with and in sets that you think you can also wear as separates.”

While it goes without saying that zeroing in on the right size makes a world of difference; Ayushi Gudwani, fashion entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of a fashion brand opines that one must ensure to choose the cut and style you would be comfortable in and compliments your personality. “If you have a big bust, avoid tops with ruffles and frills because they will make you look bigger by giving extra volume to the bust area. A tailored jacket is a great idea for women with narrow shoulders to add some structure to their frame.”

Tanvi iterates that choosing a style, colour and print carefully makes a world of difference and drops pointers on the same. “If the co-ords only work as a matching set, you may not get the full benefits of this trend. For pre-fall, think sets like shorts with a light blazer– a perfect desk-to-dinner outfit for a laidback yet polished look. Another evergreen option to keep it cool & casual would be denim-on-denim. Printed tops with a draped dhoti sari in lightweight fabric or off-shoulder crop tops paired with skirts are perfect for your pre-wedding ceremonies or fun day-time soirees if you want to keep it traditional yet contemporary.”
