Yes, we all love rain drops on our windows and the cool breeze. But, truth be told, those lovely outfits of ours have to take a back seat in the wardrobe, thanks to all the slush. Beat the rains and stay chic and comfortable while you do it. We asked Bengaluru’s fashionistas, what our top essentials should be for the occasional drizzle.
Long tops: Deepta Raghunath, a city based designer says, “This season it has been about long oversized Tunics and boxy T- Shirts that will keep you cool, as the forthcoming monsoon season can be humid as well. Drapes like shrugs are also popular now, as it can keep you covered during those strong, cold winds. Layering is not a trend that will stay around for monsoon. It makes sense to keep it minimalistic in a simple jeggings or treggings.”
Cropped pants: Aditi Sarin, an owner of a fashion company adds, “Avoid denim as it is a heavier fabric and it will weigh you down in the rain.” Roshini Shah, a city based designer, says “Cropped trousers or pants look uber stylish and it is ideal for those slushy roads. Deepta recommends simple treggings or leggings that look great with kurtas or long tops. As far as materials are concerned, polyester blends and viscose are ideals given that they dry quickly Roshini says, “Polyester blends and viscose and are more rewarding when it gets humid, while keeping you dry.”
Shoes: Deepta says, “Flip flops are out as they tend to pull out dirt while walking. Shoes like crocs that require minimal care and dry quickly are a smarter choice.” Aditi feels that boots can be a fun way to work around the limited choices for shoes and work some style into any outfit. “You can also add a large tote bag in a bright or nude colour to amp up the game. “
Umbrella or hats: Roshini notes,”An unique umbrella will actually make you look chic, in spite of people shunning it recently, and will act as your buddy in the rain. Or while choosing hats, choose those made of a material that will keep your hair dry.”
Waterproof makeup: Aditi emphasizes, “This one is pretty self explanatory. Unless you want streaks of colour on your face after a little drizzle, stick to waterproof or minimalistic makeup.” Add a pop of colour to your rainy day outfits with a bright lipstick, a quirky scarf or a cute rubber watch to suit your style.
