Resort wear can become a serious faux pas when done wrong. These tips and tricks can save you from being embarrassed at the beach.

The season for sea, sun, and sand is here, and if you can’t wait to hit the cool waters, check out these sizzling resort wear ideas for your next beach vacay or wedding! First things first, while packing for your beach holiday always remember to be comfortable and be yourself – there is nothing more original and beautiful than that.

In the resort wear segment, the big colours this season are yellow, teal, lilac, whites, and blush. Some silhouettes and colours that are a must when packing for a beach holiday are light colours like whites and pastel shades to keep you cool. Designer Adarsh Makharia adds, “In the department of cuts and innovations - shift dresses, chiffon dresses, georgettes, pleated tops, pleated dresses, maxis, and short dresses are big. Another style that is said to come back is balloon pants. When heading out for a beach vacay/wedding, a must have is a deep neck crop top with pleated sleeves paired with a high waist lehenga skirt. Easy breezy silhouettes like loose pants paired with crop tops are sure to keep you cool under the beach sun. Maxi dresses are a fun slip-on outfit for a day on the beach.”

Poolside favourties: Whereas, designer Raseel Gujral Ansal likes to translate the resort trends into vibrant, bold and edgy prints that spell “all year round” fashion for a new age diva. She suggests, “Pick up something that comprises of embroidered and printed floral hues synergising with animal prints gracefully portrayed on the flamboyant collection of resort wear, clutches and totes to bring out a fun holiday vibe.” On the other hand, Yamini Bhatt, an in-house designer points out at colours like whites, neons, pinks, peaches, and turquoise with cuts that are flowy, anti-fit, high slits and button down. She says, “Go for dual-purpose/ multitasking garments (a button up dress that can be a cover up and worn normally later, beach-to-dinner), tie-dyes, ombre, lightweight fabric that dries quickly. Pack floaty dresses, kurtas that double up as dresses and outfits that are not fussy or tight. If it for a beach wedding, have fun with whites, ivories, and pastels, lighter fabric, hints of zari and gota at the border for a little bling.”

During the long, hot days of summer, lightweight, breathable clothing is a must. Wardrobe staples like shorts, skirts and must pack maxi dresses. Harshad Daswani remarks, “Our prints for resort wear are inspired by Indian history, such as temple wall art and window jaali designs. With a focus on flowing georgettes, our must-have is the longer beach maxi-dress which can be worn not just to the pool, but straight to dinner too. And in the swimwear department, high waisted bikini bottoms and mesh-insert swimwear designs are definitely the best sellers.”

Beach weddings: If you are looking ahead to attend a destination beach wedding, then you must include a couple of fuss-free, pre-draped sarees and classy Indo-western layered outfits for effortless and classy options. Designer Vrinda Sachdev says, “The vintage details, voluminous sleeves, big cuffs and collars, dainty pearl and Swarovski embroideries, all come together to make a dramatic, eye-catching summer wedding outfit or a perfect night away at a beach, mehendi or a cocktail party by the poolside. Fabrics that are light-weighted, scalloped lace detailing, printed lycra nets, chiffons and summer satin for stylish silhouettes is what you should look for.”

While designer duo Tarushree and Sheeba add a twist to this section by reinventing Victorian fashion in cool shades of white and pastels. The duo adds, “Fabrics that are best for resort wear are organza, chiffon, georgette, and cotton for easy breezy summers. For a destination wedding outfits should be stylish and comfortable, so choose crepe lehengas, kaftans and bustier tops with flare pants to work the look. A simple design in a bright color or print with ruffles, an off-shoulder neckline or lace paneling will always stand out.”

Summery accessories: A range of accessories like sling bags, visor caps, and eco-friendly flip flops are the best way to enjoy your time in the sun. But, whatever you choose to wear, make sure to wear it with a smile says designer Pooja Aggarwal, who points out, “There is no accessory more beautiful than a smile with your resort wear; irrelevant of your skin colour, the shades of the earthwork beautifully with a happy smile and a shining beach glow. My personal favourite is the natural tones inspired by mother earth. However, if you’re looking for something extra, pick some warm toned accessories like red, orange or lemon. Pick a beautiful printed scarf in these shades or some bangles or just a simple pair of earrings to give your outfit that natural grace.”
