Perfect makeup for you to be Holi-ready

This Holi stepping out bare-faced is an option not to be taken into consideration.

Mumbai: Do you really need to wear makeup on Holi, considering the plan is to be drenched in an indecipherable rainbow of colours by the end of the day anyway? If you want an extra layer of skin protection from the sun, splashes and suspect chemicals in Holi colours, then the answer is yes.

Skin Saviour

While Holi is great fun for us, it’s not so great on your skin. The combination of spending hours under the burning sun, dirty water, and chemical colours can cause some serious damage. Doing thorough skincare prep before you step out to celebrate is a must.

Cleanse and exfoliate, before applying a moisturiser suited to your skin type, and finally, add a layer of waterproof sunscreen. Remember sunscreen needs to be applied at least 30 mins before you apply makeup or go out.

Partner in Prime

Once you’ve got your sunscreen on and settled in, apply a generous layer of primer on your skin. A primer is usually used to create a smooth canvas for the rest of your makeup and helps give your skin a flawless finish. But in this scenario, where you know your skin has to face off against sun damage and corrosive chemicals, it protects your skin by creating a strong barrier.

Stack up SPF

Since you’ll be spending more time than usual under the sun, give your skin a better chance at fending off UV rays by layering your SPF. Choose base products like concealers & foundations that have SPF to boost your skin’s ability to protect itself from harmful UV rays. MyGlamm’s Total Makeover FF Cream is perfect for the job.

Important: Using a base makeup product enriched with SPF does not mean you can forego applying sunscreen. Sunscreen is your first line of defence against UV rays, while SPF-enriched makeup only adds an extra layer of protection.

Get in Line

If you’re the kind who never steps out without eyeliner, switch out of your regular kajal with a waterproof formula. You don’t want black panda eyes bleeding into your face full of bright pigments. But in the spirit of celebrating colour, instead of the traditional black kajal, experiment with bold blues, teals, and greens, all of which look vibrant on Indian skin tones.

Lip Love

Lips often get ignored in skincare prep, even though they get damaged most easily. Your lips have a super thin outer layer and absorb colours very easily. They also tend to dry out quickly when you’re playing in the hot sun.

Before getting doused in colour, apply a generous layer of lip balm to lock in your lips’ moisture levels. A few swipes of the LIT pH Lip Balm will serve double duty—it’ll hold in moisture and give you a naturally tinted pout.

On the Nail

Remember walking around with gulal-tinged fingertips for days after Holi and hating it? There’s a simple solution to prevent that—nail polish! Always start with a good base coat. It protects your nail bed and prevents colour from seeping through. Then follow it up with a bright celebratory pop of colour like the Wanderlust Gel Nail Enamel in Mistress.

Finish off your nails with a top coat to lock in the shine and prevent your nails from chipping quickly. While playing Holi, nails tend to get soft and break easily after being soaked in water for a long time. Wearing nail polish acts as armour, ensuring they stay strong as you fling colour.
