Go green next year

Greenery is declared the colour of 2017 by trend forecasters at the Pantone Color Institute.

The popular colour-matching firm Pantone has announced that ‘Greenery’ will be the colour of 2017. According to Pantone, green will be the dominant shade in the fashion and design industries. Pantone determines the colour of the year by studying trends in fashion and design industries. This year, they plan to raise awareness about global climatic conditions.

How can one use green in their wardrobe and make-up? How can one design their houses and offices using the shade in the coming year and stay in trend? Stylists and architects tell us.

Green fashion
Too much of green can look gaudy. Stylist and fashion blogger Masoom Minawala says, “Greenery is such a fresh take on the colour of the year. Now that I think of it, it’s a rare sight in a wardrobe! But having said that, it’s not as hard to style it — you can find dresses, skirts, coats and shirts in this colour and style them with beige, black and navy. If you think that might be too daring for your personality — only immerse greenery in your accessories to play safe and achieve an in-trend yet minimalistic look.”

Go colourful
Celebrity make-up artist Sandy tells us how one can use green while doing their make-up. “Green is a lovely colour. However, one has to be careful while using green in make-up. Celebrities or models on the runaway can carry off green easily, but it can get tricky for others. If you want to stay in- trend, you can use green eye shadow. You can also add a little green blush. If you are open to experimenting, a green lipstick can also set a bold statement.”

Make your home and office a green haven
Architect Pavan Suryadevara says, “Green will be the colour of the year in interior designing as well. When you’re painting the walls at your home or office, paint one wall green and the rest in subtle shades. Hang artefacts and painting on the green coloured wall. When it comes to furniture, use green leather or fabric sofa. It is better to avoid green curtains, but if you really want to, use velvet material.”

Rajasree Ram, Principal designer, adds, “Green has plenty of hues. You can experiment with the shades. While painting the walls, you can team up green with complimenting colours like lemon yellow. Using artwork in green is the best way to use the colour as the theme. You can also use green coloured fabric for sofa and curtains. Another way to add greenery is to use a lot of indoor plants.”
