Winter is around the corner and the mood is set to beat the chill of the season in some flashy metallic tailoring. Heavy metal hues were a big hit on the autumn/winter 2017 catwalks and this smart, sophisticated and sparkly item is bound to be a timeless addition to any wardrobe. Metallic Jackets take you back to the era of Elvis Presley right up to the ‘90s where pop and punk culture embraced metallic in all forms and was widely worn by Michael Jackson to Madonna and many more. The colour silver has become the hot favourite for this season and we saw it on the global runway by designers like Paco Rabanne, Saint Laurent, Loewe, Maison Margiela, Bottega Veneta, Christopher Kane, J.W.Anderson and the like, just to name a few. Celebrities including Varun Dhawan, Neeraj Gaba and Salman Khan have all shown that a metallic jacket can fit any style and is the only way to wrap up this season.
Continuing the trend, Ranveer Singh, who is already making headlines for his look as Allauddin Khilji in his upcoming film Padmavati was spotted recently wearing a metallic silver jacket by Cheap Monday. If Ranveer’s glamorous getup is a bit OTT for you, then maybe you can take some inspiration from these city-based fashionistas who also have a penchant for a shiny piece of outerwear.
Avoid head-to-toe looks:
Avoiding head-to-toe looks in metallics and going for a more wearable take should do the job, suggests fashion guru Jeremy Cabral. “When you are wearing flashy metallic jackets make sure you don’t go for head-to-toe looks; a white tee with blue or black denims will look perfect! Also, don’t forget to get a bold hairdo and remember metallic with faux leather tend to look cheap.’’ Investing in a good quality jacket is a go for this season and it can make a great impact on your personal style. Fashion Designer Sumiran Chettri adds, “The best thing about a metallic jacket is that it creates a statement of its own. Club it to a basic or a monochrome outfit, a good pair of boots and you’re all set to rock this season.”
Pair it up with minimals:
Be it metallic, sequinned or embellishments all over, it is a statement piece to carry with panache. “Pair it up with minimals and no matter what your style is, you will pull it off like a pro with all those eyes turning to you,” says fashionista Rituja Bakshi.
Flaunt it with some embroidery!
While many choose to go for a classic gold or silver finish, stylist Priyanka Vinod says that experimenting with a bit of embroidery can also look chic. “A lot of clothing companies these days are adding embroidery to their jackets. Obviously, go mellow on every other element and go low on everything else while carrying a metallic jacket with embroidery. It looks good on a plain white or black - T with dark chinos or jeans! And you’re ready to head out,’’ says stylist Priyanka Vinod.
