Duchess Kate Middleton’s very Indian dress from Anita Dongre’s Love Notes collection led to so much interest in her designs that her website crashed.
Says Anita, “Elegant and feminine is what I have always believed in, and it appears so does Kate. She has a strong sense of style and whatever she wears has always been perfect. Seeing her in one from my prêt collections was a pleasant surprise.”
How did she manage to dress Kate? She answers, “She is my client and like everyone, I’d like to maintain confidentiality. There was no managing needed, it’s as simple as her team reaching out to me as they liked my designs.”
Kate’s team, however, had altered Anita’s design. The original dress was paired with bottoms and a dupatta, as displayed by a model during Lakme Fashion Week 2016. For Kate, the Moghul-print inspired tunic was cut shorter and strapped across her slender waist, giving the perfect summery look, which received rave reviews from desis all over.
Anita’s journey as a designer started 11 years back, but it is a recent phenomenon that she has become a darling of celebrities. Is that an outcome of a genius PR team? She replies, “It’s because we have come up with a lot of flagship stores in Mumbai last year, making it easier for celebrities to buy my collections.”
