Is cosmetic surgery emerging as prime V-day gift?

Everyone wants to look their best on the heart-shaped holiday and so, people are turning to face-lifts for a feel-good quick fix.

New Delhi: Gone are the days, it seems, when only cards, flowers and chocolates could cast a love spell on your Valentine. Now, a V-Day gift of Botox can say "I love you" in its own special 'He Hit Me (and It Felt like a Kiss)' way.

Everyone wants to look their best on the heart-shaped holiday and so, people are turning to face-lifts for a feel-good quick fix. And as a Valentine's Day gift, their lovers are footing the bill!

According to the Mail Online, more and more men are searching the internet and cosmetic surgery clinics, for suitable nip and tucks for their partners. According to a survey done by the Good Surgeon Guide, 78 percent of women would be happy to receive a cosmetic procedure for a gift.

Not all surgical procedures make good gifts and men are advised to think carefully and choose one, which will not offend their partners, especially if it is supposed to be a surprise.

Dr. Anup Dhir, Senior Consultant, Cosmetic Surgeon, Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, said, "In their quest to do something different for their partners on Valentine's Day, youngsters in the city are ditching traditional presents, such as flowers and chocolates, and instead exploring unique gift options, including lip augmentation and laser hair removal."

He further said, "The most popular beauty treatments that lovers are gifting each other include non-surgical procedures for facial rejuvenation and skin rejuvenation, lip augmentation and chemical peels to remove pigmentation from skin and even teeth-whitening."

The popular procedures suitable for a Valentine's Day package are non surgical procedures like dermal fillers (including fat grafting) for wrinkle correction and lip augmentation, botox injections for removing wrinkles, laser treatments of the facial skin, chemical peels for removing pigmentation and pores from facial skin and 'vampire' or PRP facelift.

Latest is SNIF fat injection to rectify fine wrinkles of the facial skin. These can be done at short notice after a detailed consultation and the result is visible soon.

As a word of caution, these are medical treatments so should be thought over carefully. Make sure you and your partner have a detailed consultation with your cosmetic surgeon to fully understand the pros and cons of the treatment. And beware of low priced offers made by untrained people.

With a growing number of Americans getting both surgical and non-surgical treatments, it's no surprise that these procedures have turned into popular presents. However, for those looking to treat their honey to something less conventional, could cosmetic surgery be the ultimate in luxury gift-giving or is it downright offensive?"
