Designer Vidhi Wadhwani has become only one of two designers who is representing India at the London Fashion Week. Wadhwani will be launching Solistice, her Autumn Winter 2018 collection at the prestigious event.

The collection beautifully entwines luminosity and darkness with handcrafted textures and motifs and is inspired by the juxtaposition of light and shadow created during day and night. The collection resonates with the carefree nomadic easy-going muse who doesn’t conform to the usual and thrives in her world where everything is possible.

In a conversation with this correspondent, Wadhwani shares her thoughts behind Solistice, London Fashion Week and future plans.

Tell us a bit about your collection. What are its inspiration?

The AW Collection titled ‘Solstice’ was inspired by the play of light and darkness, of luminescence and shadows that occurs during a solstice. Our signature 3textures and metallic elements, the play of sheer fabrics like Organzas with heavier jacquards and soft linens gives it a 3Dimemsional element that we developed this season.

Why call it Solistice?

The colour board of Yellows, blacks and whites with metallic elements is reminiscent of the sun moon and stars and the shadows they cast during a solstice. Also, in many countries Solstice is celebrated with fervour and I have tried to emphasis on the mood of happiness and gratitude that I feel at the moment.

How does it feel like to be one of two designers getting a chance to showcase at London Fashion Week

It feels great and humbling to have the opportunity to showcase what I have to offer to the global market in terms of my techniques and the skills of the Indian artisan at an international platform.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion is the freedom to express who you are and what you want to be.

What are your expectations from the show?

As it is my first show internationally, I am hoping to create a fine balance of Indian handcraftsmanship with a global appeal and I hope our narrative is spoken well to the market there.

What kind of material will you be focusing on?

We have focused mainly on hand block printing on sheer silk organzas in innovative geometric recurring patterns.
