Become a trail'blazer
When the term ‘trail gown’ is mentioned, you instantly visualise Hollywood actresses sporting this look while receiving prestigious awards. Indian designers, who are influenced by their western counterparts are ensuring that our celebrities also sport this statement gown in fun and quirky ways. Sported by Bollywood fashionistas like Aishwarya Rai and Parineeti Chopra, this trend ups the glamour quotient of any event.
Adding glamour to an outfit is not very difficult and this look goes above and beyond to do the same. City-based designer Tanya Bhatra says, “This trend can be seen mostly in western gowns. Designers are now coming out with various indo-western outfits, lehengas etc with this trend. It is perfect for anyone who wants to add to her glamour factor and style quotient.”
Going over the top is something that can happen when one is not careful. City-based fashion influencer Komal Basith says, “For me its all about opposites. To prevent the look from becoming extremely feminine, I would wear a top with a long trail and pair it with leather trousers to toughen up the look.” Carrying yourself in the proper manner is not the way to have fun with this style. Tanya says, “There isn’t a lot of do’s and don’ts but the one thing to keep in mind with the trail gown is the venue. If the event is held in a garden or a lawn it is best to avoid long trails. This will prevent the risk of tripping on the trail.”
Statement accessories add on to the overall look of the person. Designer Abhilash Surendran says, “While picking up accessories, I would suggest to style the outfit with a statement earring, high heels and a clutch. Keeping the overall jewellery minimal is the best way to pull this look.” Till date we have seen trails being used in gowns worn by brides but the trail has come a long way. “While my taste in dressing up is all about wearing what I want and when I want regardless of the occasion, I’d reserve a dramatic trail for a night out or a red carpet event or a gala as it’s just a bit too over the top for a daytime look.” says Komal.
