This season, volume and structure has everything to lead the pack in your wardrobe — yes, floor length bottom wear with intricate drapes, knots and buttoning details is what you must don to up the ante even in the thick of blistering summer heat. Need fail-safe sartorial advice to go about it? The city’s fashion crop lays down the laws.
Everyday style basic: “Until a while ago, drapes were synonymous to red-carpet events and evening soirees. But that’s not the case anymore – heavily ruffled pants, balloon and dhoti pants with intricate drape detailing that start right from the knees, which leaves a lot for experimenting are in,” says Chaitra Bhatt, a fashion blogger.
Styling tips to not err: “Summers are spot on to sport airy pleated bottom wear as everyone’s on the lookout for breathable fabrics and a comfortable fit. Loose fitted trousers with a lot of ruffles that add volume and give out an illusion of intricate drapes are trendy and feasible for the blistering heat. Women can also start by picking maxi skirts with slits on the sides that can be knotted up in myriad ways to give out an appearance of drapes. Tossing a chiffon maxi shrug over a crop top is ideal to give the look an edgy vibe,” suggests Rashi Verma, fashion stylist and curator.
Drapes for body type: A lot of women shy away from outfits that entail heavy draping lest they commit a fashion faux pas. Keeping that in mind, Rashi gives out an important note to make. “Playing with drape is tricky indeed. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that you steer clear of the trend. The cardinal rules to remember are to pick the hue and pay heed to where the draping detail is. While drapes are ideal for hourglass body types, women with an apple-shaped frame must keep the drape detailing in and around the neckline. Pear-shaped and rectangular body types must pick bottom wear with drapes that start just under their waistline.”
