If you’re the kind that believes that tailor-made clothes aren’t just for weddings and that you can opt for a stunning customised outfit for any occasion, then Hanger Labs is your design destination.
A fashion label created by two spunky childhood friends Komal Choudhary and Melanie Ghosh, Hanger Labs provides customised clothing for their clients depending on their body type and budget.
“We have a collection of clothes that people can check out online and pick what they like. If there’s an A-line skirt that they like, we can customise it according to their body type, desired length etc. We also work on a budget. If there’s someone who likes something that costs Rs 7,000 but can’t afford it, we make a similar dress but with lesser hand work or stones to suit their budget,” says Komal.
The twosome meticulously works with women to bring their dream outfits to life. “Nowadays, we need to find a way to fit into ready to wear apparel. We believe it should be the other way around – clothes should be made to fit you, in a way that makes you feel beautiful,” expresses Melanie.
Interestingly, the duo doesn’t have a fashion background. Komal was in the advertising field for 10 years and Melanie, an engineer, was at TESCO for six years before they decided to make a permanent move to fashion.
“We wanted to be our own boss. My mom was in the fashion industry, so I’ve been exposed to the fashion world a bit while Melanie is a very fashion conscious person,” says Komal.
The two pals have fashion tastes as different as chalk and cheese. While Melanie has a chic and girly type of style, Komal’s is more edgy, boisterous and tomboyish.
Ask them about their fashion inspirations and they say, “Elli Saab. Also, Anita Dongre for smart casuals, Zuhair Murad for his beautiful gowns and Manish Malhotra for his bridal wear.”
