Make-up trend: That 'draper' look

As the year draws to a close, step up your beauty game by sporting a make-up trend that offers your face a sculpted glow.

This winter, let your make-up do the talking! Indeed, there are a glut of trends which have made it to the beauty charts. But this season, draping is having a major moment. So much so, the technique is taking over strobing, contouring and clown contouring. So, what is draping? Well, essentially, draping is giving your face a sculpted glow. This look is achieved by using blush as opposed to a dark contouring product, thus draping' your angles in colour.

Draping was first made famous in the ‘60s and ‘70s by legendary make-up artist, Way Brady. Brady who has been a make-up artist of celebrities like Cher and Diana Ross embraced the concept of ‘colour glow’ as a way of bringing out the natural ‘drape’ of the face. Brady wanted beauty lovers to learn how to sculpt based on their unique features, not face shape, which was a revolutionary concept back then. Marc Jacobs has pushed a draping come back this season.

You are essentially changing the shape of the face with colour, using it to drape the contours of your face to achieve what you desire, whether it’s lift, sculpt, volume or balance. Unlike most complex trends, the draping look is easy to emulate. Blend two shades of blush. Now, sweep just below the cheekbones to contour and define. Drape the high of the cheekbones to graduate colour. Also, do not forget to drape the tip of the chin and sweep along the centre of the neck and décolletage to ensure overall balance.

Whether you are headed for work or just a fun soirée, here’s a look that will not disappoint. Go on, skip the tedious process and try draping. BLUSH IS BACK!
