Hijabi beauty vlogger becomes CoverGirl's newest spokeswoman

She hopes that the move will convince Muslim women that brands care about them too.

A popular hijab-wearing beauty vlogger has been named the newest spokeswoman for CoverGirl cosmetics. Nura Afia will also be featured in commercials and billboards of the leading U.S. cosmetics brand.

Afia has achieved worldwide recognition for her make-up tutorial videos that draw thousands of views. She not only has 200,000 subscribers on YouTube but also 300,000 followers on Instagram. "I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we're important, especially hijabis," she told Refinery29. "[We] can be featured on TV, [we] can be featured on billboards in Times Square. [We] can be represented."
