LILAC is the new favourite

Move over pink. There is a new colour palette this season and our actresses are already sporting this light hued look.

Lilac is considered to be one of the prettiest shades of the pastel colour. This colour has been forecasted to override the pink that people were obsessing over till now. Designers now are embracing lilac for everything from tailoring to bouncy-hemmed party dresses. Actresses like Huma Qureshi, Sonam Kapoor, Aishwarys Rai have in the past welcomed this trend with open hands.

This trend has been associated with royalty, luxury, power and passion as got designers going gaga over it. “This trend is definitely here to stay. It’s perfect for a daytime look but not for a night time look. It is a trend that is merging with colours like greyish purple, violet etc. It has a very different concept of colouring”, says designer Aparna S. Lilac tends to exude femininity. Designer Akanksha Jaishanker is of the opinion that lilac is perfect colour for the spring-summer look.

Lilac as a colour is both powerful on its own and can also be toned down. “I would style lilac shrug with a blouse and a free flowing shirt”, says designer Aisha Siddiqua. To accentuate the curves and bring out the femininity, “A lilac floral dress that flares at the waist and has a lot ruffles can be paired with either a cream or a white clutch and strap heels will make for a great daytime look”, suggests Akanksha. She further adds that people with a dramatic character can pair lilacs with colour such as crisp oranges to give the outfit a unique look.

This designer is on the opinion that lilac is a very English colour, so the accessories must compliment the colours. Aparna suggests, “People can opt for jewellery that is made of either crystal, diamonds, Swarovski. But if one wants to wear traditional and ethnic jewellery, Kundan is the best choice.” Something simple and understated is the way to go with this trend. Alisha adds, “People can wear small diamond studs and a simple bracelet and you’re good to go”. Lilacs can be added in the form of shoes or clutches. But one should ensure that the colour should soft and toned down. “White and cream are the best colour that goes well with lilac. Black should definitely be avoided as it takes away the softness of the trend”, says Akanksha.
