Uptown funk: From street style to celebs

If the runways are anything to go by, it's okay to add an element of quirk into your daily wardrobe.

While normcore fashion with its perennial blacks and whites will never get old, the trend now is to let the freak flags fly! From street style to celebs, ‘tis the season to add a little quirk and kitsch to your wardrobe.

The ‘luru fashionistas tell us just how. Designers like Manish Arora, Masaba Gupta and Rehane are amongst a rare brand that dares to tread the path between too bright and too beautiful.

“Speaking of the trend, a number of people are now taking it forward by mixing prints to add to the quirk,” says Bengaluru designer Karishma Kristina Singh.

“Since everyone isn’t confident to go all out, the easiest way to wing it is by adding an unusual colour or a quirky accessory to your ensemble like jackets, big beaded necklaces or unusual rings,” she says, even as she adds vintage quirk like macaroons and dragon flies to her new line.

Think psychedelic glasses, sequin embellished velvet couture, comic book inspired handbags, nutty detachable collars, crazy badges and time pieces in bold colours, for starters. Are you with us? Good.

Most people also don’t want to part with their monochromes. But that doesn’t mean you can’t take the quirk up a notch.

Allow Bengaluru blogger Princy Mascarenhas to explain, “Monochrome outfits are something anyone can play around. By using statement or quirky accessories that grab attention, one can really up the monochrome game! Few of my personal favourites are styling patterned knee high heels like Kendall Jenner or adding an embellished Michael Kors skirt like Zendaya did at the a movie premiere. You could also add a fringe bag in bright colours with a plain monochrome outfit to add a bit of drama.”

So get out of your comfort zone and add that one element that will catch anybody’s eye. Promise. You’ll make heads turn.
