Smriti Irani spins magic on social media with #IWearHandloom, Twitterati follow suit
Smriti Irani’s stint at the HRD ministry might have turned out to be a bumpy ride with unwanted controversies and the criticism that followed, but it seems she is off to a good start as the new textile minister.
Making her presence felt on the social media yet again, Irani posted a picture of herself draped in a blue hand-woven silk sari from Bihar, calling it her “#IWearHandloom look”.

She also asked her followers to share their pictures wearing handloom and Twitterati followed suit, with everyone from politicians to fashionistas uploading their pictures sporting handloom.

Although her failure to keep political storms at bay was seen as a reason behind her “demotion”, there’s no doubting her skill of handling the social media, and connecting with the youth.
The selfie with handloom campaign which kicked off with her tweet, will continue till the National Handloom Day on August 7.
