French manicures are a classic! But once in a while, it okay to amp it up with your own twists and turns. A checkered french mani is versatile, easy to do and literally goes with any outfit and any looks. Here is how you can do it on your own.

STEP 1: Dip a cotton swab into some nail polish remover and remove all of your old nail polish. Be sure to remove traces of polish from all the corners and cracks, since you'll be able to see other colors through the pale French mani polish.

STEP 2: Start by trimming your nails to the desired length. Make sure all of them are even.

STEP 3: File and buff your nails use a nail file to shape your nails depending on your preference.

STEP 4: Soak your nails for three mintues in a warm bowl of water, whole milk or olive oil. This softens your cuticles.

STEP 5: Push back your cuticle use an orange stick or cuticle pusher to push your cuticles back. Massage cuticle onto your nails.

STEP 6: Apply the base coat. You can go for a colour that isn’t pink or cream too. Allow it to dry completely.

STEP 7: Paint one half of your nail tip with white polish and the other half with black polish. Using a top coat will help the manicure last longer.

Doing a perfect french tip is difficult. Therefore, you can use scotch tape, stencile, Q-tips to make you fench mani look perfect.
