Encourage terrace gardens, says Vizag mayor

VISAKHAPATNAM: Impressed with the terrace garden of a housewife Bangaru Jhansi at Taylor's Colony in Madhurawada of Visakhapatnam, Mayor Hari Venkata Kumari requested every individual to convert their terraces and backyards into gardens to protect the environment.

She appreciated Jhansi for growing different kinds of fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants in her 60-square-yard terrace area without using pesticides and chemicals.

“Taking a cue from Jhansi, every person should start growing a garden on their roof, so that the new generations can understand the importance of protecting nature,’’ the mayor said.

Responding, Jhansi said she has been interested in gardening since childhood. Now, she has a garden on her rooftop, which she has developed by taking tips from videos and books. She said the roof garden with various types of plants and trees is attracting all kinds of birds and butterflies, which gives her immense happiness.

Jhansi also gave tips to YSRC leaders and staff members of sachivalayam who accompanied the mayor to her house.
