Gaiety marks Navaratri, Bathukamma festivities

Hyderabad: The city is soaked in the spirit of Navaratri. Sunday marked ‘Ayudapuja’ day with almost all entities performing puja for their plant and machinery, equipment and vehicles.

People thronged temples from the wee hours of Sunday. Temples were decorated with flowers and lighting. The devotees were in traditional attire while at Durga and Navratri pandals one could hear bhajans and devotional chants.

The Batukamma celebrations, under the aegis of the department of culture, evoked overwhelming response at Tank Bund where a foreigner, who joined the dancers, captured everyone’s attention.

The festivities were enthusiastic at BHEL’s old MIG quarters, New Ganga nagar and at Kanakadurga devalayam.

Sunayana Katta, said “There is an artificial water tank in the temple for immersion of Bathukamma flowers.”

Chief secretary A. Santhi Kumari participated in the Floral Festival celebrations at Nature cure hospital Balkampet. She visited the SVEEP stall and checked her vote and urged the participants to recheck their votes.

Swapna from Friends colony in Puppalaguda said

“We have taken part in every Batukamma celebration. Here a majority of the people are those from different states.”

According to Biswajit Mukherjee, one of the organisers of the event at NTR Stadium, “Maya Ashtami Puja was performed. Women participated in large numbers in Sankha Dhwani. Live performance by Kalyan Project and Bengali drama stole the limelight.”
