Hyderabad: Crowds loomed around rakhi outlets and sweet shops ahead of Sunday’s “Rakshabandhan”, the day on which sisters have been tying rakhis to their brothers since times immemorial.
Khushi Jain, a resident of Banjara Hills, is all excited over tying rakhis to her brothers as well as cousins. “I have bought 15 rakhis and special sweets. I have purchased more rakhis this year than last year, as most of my cousins could not visit my home owing to restrictions because of Coronavirus. It is also a Sunday tomorrow. My celebrations will be grand,” Khushi declared.
Uma Devi, a resident of Manikonda, said: “I have done all my shopping for this big day. It gives me an opportunity to express my love and gratitude to my brother, who has always stood by me. As I was infected by Covid-19 a few months ago, it is my brother who took care of me,” she remarked.
Prakash Singh, who is selling rakhis at a temporary stall in Chikkadpalli, said, “This year’s sale is far better. People started their purchases a week in advance. New stone-cut designs as well as traditional rakhis are for sale.”
“On Rakshabandhan, women prefer to pick up sweets like jahangri, jilabi and tilli laddu, apart from traditional sweets. The sale is much better this year compared to last year,” said Rakesh of Vijaya Sweets, Sultan Bazaar.
