Faithful bemoan lack of sanitation near holy places

Hyderabad: Members of ashoorkhana management committees on Tuesday urged the GHMC to undertake sanitation work, lift debris and garbage, and clean roads leading up to them, with the start of the Islamic month of Muharram on Wednesday.

This month is important for the Shia community, as they hold special prayers. The holy places are also visited by people of other religions.

Ali Raza, of Sardar Markazi, Serate Zehra committee, said that sanitation work has not been carried out, even as thousands of faithful are expected to visit.

“Bibi Ka Alawa, Dabeerpura, Aza Khana Zaira, Darul Shifa, and at many other places, the civic authorities should see to it that urroundings of these holy places are kept clean.”

Mir Murtuza Ali Moosvi, the custodian of Baadshahi Ashoorkhana on High Court road, said: “GHMC authorities are not at all responding to our requests. The month of Muharram is starting tomorrow, they should consider and respect the sentiments of people.”
