Sketches on Fort Kochi
Well-known cartoonist E.P. Unny will lead a heritage walk exploring Fort Kochi, a place that has been home to many cultures. Unny will talk about the architecture and culture of the place during the walk, titled ‘Making of Fort Kochi’. It is a part of the ongoing India Heritage Walk Festival, a month-long multi-city event organised by Sahapaedia in association with UNESCO.
The heritage walk will take place on February 16 from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Meeting point is St. Francis Church. Unny had spent five weeks in Fort Kochi in 2007 sourcing stories and sketching. He aims to share with the participants of the walk the sheer fascination of crossing the road across a couple of centuries. He has sketched and written Santa & the Scribes:
The Making of Fort Kochi, a book on the heritage of European Kochi. He has also sketched the legendary Kathakali artiste Kottakkal Sivaraman for Minukku, a documentary film by M.R. Rajan. His work was featured at the Asian Cartoonists Conference in Tokyo, 1996, International Cartoon Festival in Carquefou, France, 2006, and the Kochi Muziris Biennale, 2016. He won the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Institute of Cartoonists, 2009. The tour is free.
