Female prisoner waits for book release
KANNUR: Lissy is eagerly waiting for the book on her to finish printing soon for she may not be able to attend the function after November 19, the day her parole ends, and she has to return to the women’s prison in Kannur. Poorna Publications will release the book, Kuttavaaliyil Ninnu Ezhuthukariyilekk and the printing is expected to be over by November 15. The 49-year old from Wayanad is serving a sentence of 25 years for being a drug carrier, and she had already completed six years now.
She was arrested twice and termed as a habitual offender, though she claims to have been trapped. Her life took a turn when she met journalist-turned-PR professional Subin Mananthavady, who interviewed her during his research on prisons in the state. “I am indebted to Mr Mananthavady and the publisher, for I got this parole to meet my ailing mother, only because of this book. The book includes 15 poems and eight short stories written by me before 2014, apart from my life story. I don’t remember what I scribbled long back. My only prayer is that the book gets printed before my parole ends,” she says. According to Mr Mananthavady, Ms Lissy is talented enough to write more books, and this is just her introduction to the literary world. He believes that more publishers will approach her once the book hits the stands.
