Looking at life through the eyes of a bureaucrat
Bengaluru: With moving music, eminent personalities and some expressive book readings, the book launch of Community Catalyst by journalist and theatre artiste Nirmala Govindarajan was an interesting affair. Based on the experiences of Bharat Lal Meena, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Higher Education of Karnataka, the book puts the reader in the shoes of a bureaucrat, the kind that quietly works his ways to answers, said Brand expert Harish Bijoor, one of the guests.
“There are two kinds of bureaucrats, the ones that make a lot of noise and then there are people like Meena who silently reach solutions,” he remarked.
The book was written over a period of a year and the author travelled from Rajasthan to Shimla, to relate to the story.
Published by Sapna Books, the general view was that the story read well. Govindarajan has co-authored two books, Mind Blogs 1.0 and Trailblazers of Bangalore. She has also written two other novels, which are up for publication.
Justice M.N. Venkatachaliah was the chief guest and he has also written a foreword. Meena, who hails from Rajasthan, remarked, “When I first met Nirmala, I was doubtful if she could do it, but she has done a brilliant job!” Changing the system is all about working from within, he said. “It is all about working as a part of the system, not against it from outside. But all that I’ve achieved wouldn’t be possible without my supportive family and dedicated wife,” he added.
