Brilliant play of fine textures!

Artist Kottegade Ravi's second show is a celebration of everything spiritual.

Art exists not inside the piece itself, but inside the mind of the viewer: Noah Hawley, Before the Fall.

Kottegade Ravi is an artist who is surrounded by spirituality both in his artworks and within his soul. He is an artist who is always soul-searching and his paintings are a reflection of the person he is. Soft spoken with a saint-like smile, Kottegade Ravi’s second show is a celebration of everything spiritual. Everything around us has a texture of its own. This very surface creates a forte and singularity for that specific thing.

Likewise, intentionally or unwittingly, every artist creates a specific surface in each oeuvre that he creates. Kotegadde Ravi creates textures in various structures. Mysteriously strange textured surfaces utilised as a part of his art are a testimony to his talent. Versatile textures created in Ravi’s work demonstrates his profound thought process and deep rooted sentiments therefore, he is fruitful in putting it across to the viewers. One can see textures in Ravi’s work in different structures and forms.

Kotegadde Ravi dabbles with varied styles of paintings as he is deeply interested in spirituality and Indian mythology. Being extremely creative, he caters to art lovers who are interested in modern and contemporary paintings. His paintings are not only restricted to brushes, he uses palette knives and other tools too while creating a painting. When Ravi paints he does it more in a meditative way. His use of textures suggests how sensibly he has used the brush strokes.

He drew inspiration from the temples of Hampi and Konark which have similar cracks and textures. Ravi has extensively experienced the spirituality through these ancient monuments. There is an uncanny presence of light and uniqueness in the textures of his works that is sourced from his soul although he may not be conscious about the meditative presence in his works. But the onlooker, once seeing his paintings goes into a state of meditativeness for sure. Kottegade Ravi says “For me as an artist, texture has always played a pivotal role. I find peace and happiness as an artist in textures. When I paint, I first start with the textures and then move towards the figurative aspect. So this show is a display of the textures I have experimented with,” he says.

The fact that Ravi is a cut above the rest and has laid a lot of emphasis on textures, makes this art show an appreciation of the creativity of the artist. His technique of texturing is interesting and exciting but it is also a good platform for him to progress and evolve more as an artist in the figurative way.
