Tantalising TENets: Art gets artifact

Bakula Nayak is a city-based artist with a series “Make Art, Make Love, Make Tea†on vintage paper. She answers our quick-fire round.

1 If paper was not your medium what would it be?
I would work with ceramics and try bringing out my work in 3D.

2 Why vintage paper?
I have a fascination for anything old and I collect anything that is old.

3 Why tea and not coffee?
I never drank either till I was an adult and I hate the smell of coffee.

4 An absurd compliment you have got for your work?
I am yet to get one. I love to see that people are generally happy when they view my work.

5A song on loop these days...
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil… I am a case of a lost romantic.

6 How do you deal with mental blocks as an artist?
I switch off, let it be, and walk away. It happens very rarely though. The blocks I deal with are generally physical blocks.

7What would your tombstone say?
Make art, make love and make tea.

8 A skill you wish to acquire?
I wish to acquire the skill of patience while working with colours.

9 The most defining moment in your life?
The day I discovered I could do it. That I could still sketch and paint.

10 One movie you will watch a million times?
Bajirao Mastani, I have watched the movie several times but never the ending. I cannot deal with sad stories.
