Past anecdotes and historical excerpts in the form of heritage architecture form the core material and inspiration for the thoughtful series of works done by artist Nehageeta Verma. She subtly weaves the bygone grandeur and contemporary aspects together in her works which are delicately carved into a fine yet complex framework. The cleanly cut paper, transformed into intricate lattice work like patterns and shapes recreates the splendour of the past in a unique way.
“My creative practice has a layer of archival and mythical visual references to create a conceptual dialogue. I am trying to achieve this visual complexity through various techniques, which include the use of embroidered pieces of cloth, embroidery, block printing, photographic images of historical monuments and elements, handmade paper with silver leaves, maps of Hyderabad, etc,” she shares.
One of her recently rendered paper cut works is currently on display at the show, ‘Emerging Palettes’ at Shrishti Art Gallery. The geometrical patterns cut on paper converge and direct the concentration of the viewer towards the centre of the composition. The circular space contains a couple of minarets and a fine lattice work of patterns that seem to be in the process of evolving and thus, initiate a sense of flow of energy.

An equally prominent set of works by artist Ranjeet Kumar are also a part of the same show. One of his mixed media works titled, ‘Transformation of profession’ contains four sets of installed manual measuring scales. The base of the scale is covered with intricate drawings that support the artist’s dialogue about professional paradigms and social pressures.
The show also contains a set of nine drawings and etching works by Ranjeet. His body of work explores the experiences of migration with sensitivity and conceptual depth. The works delve deep into the process of migration in terms of physical and external changes as well as internal, psychological ones. In fact, migration in search of work forms the core concept of Ranjeet’s works which he assimilates passionately into his medium of expression.
Talking about his works displayed in the show, Ranjeet says, “I am ecstatic that my works got selected for this show. My journey as an artist has just begun and such platforms encourage young artists like me by giving us a chance to put our works in front of art lovers to see and get connected to.”
