Promoting Indian arts

The workshop, Sameeksha 2019, aimed at promoting classical music, dance and folk arts among the youth and making them aware of the rich cultural.

Students of Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Edapally, had the golden opportunity to learn valuable lessons in 13 art forms from maestros. A week-long workshop was organised at the institution by SPIC MACAY, a non-political nationwide voluntary movement. The workshop, Sameeksha 2019, aimed at promoting classical music, dance and folk arts among the youth and making them aware of the rich cultural heritage of the country.

The students attended 15-hour training sessions of their choice. The sessions were on Hindustani music, Carnatic music, clay modelling, puppetry, traditional Kerala mural painting, Mohiniyattam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Tabla and Kalarippayattu. The gurus were Amjad Ali Khan, Vivek Moozhikulam, Prof C.S. Jayaram, Rajeev Pulavar, Vinod N.K., Anupama Suresh, FACT Jayadeva Verma, Srividya Angara, Deepthi Parol, Debjaya Sarkar, Sumit Nayak, and masters from Vallabhatta Kalari, respectively.

“The overwhelming responses from students after the previous edition encouraged us to organise the workshop in a splendid manner this time,” said Dr U. Krishna Kumar, director of Amrita School of Arts and Sciences, Kochi.
