Writers, Poets Hail Patanjali Sastri for Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award

KAKINADA: Several progressive writers, poets and environmentalists hailed eminent writer, poet and environmentalist Tallavajjula Patanjali Sastri for winning the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award for his ‘Rameswaram Kakulu’ and other stories.

Patanjali Sastry is a renowned writer and environmentalist from Rajamahendravaram. He was born in Pithapuram and earned fame also as an environmentalist and archaeologist. He fights for the rights of different sections of people.

Sastry played a vital role in protecting Kolleru lake and won a court order to protect the migratory birds and the lake.

Eminent story writer Vadrevu Veera Lakshmi Devi said Patanjali Sastry has a special style of writing in Telugu. “The subjects he selected were unique and made his readers sit and think. He wrote more than 100 short stories, four novels and progressive Telugu poems. His novels Veera Nayakudu and Devara Kotishu (A satirical novel) are excellent subject-oriented literary creations. He wrote about the lifestyles of cities.”

Eminent poet and Kavi Sandhya poetry magazine editor Sikhamani said Patanjali Sastry deserved the national award. Sastry previously won the Appajyosula award. “He is one of the rare writers and poets with expertise both in creativity and in science and technology.”

“As an environmentalist, Sastry has many achievements and keeps fighting for environmental causes. He has vast knowledge in archaeology. Every poem, story and novel of his are different concepts.”

Eminent critic, poet, story writer and Sahrudaya Sahithi secretary Vedula Srirama Sarma (Sirisha) said Sastry is a nature lover. His writings are awakening humanity and getting rid of superstitious beliefs from society, he said.

Sahitya Sravanthi state vice president G Nageswara Rao (GANARE) said, “Patanjali Sastri is a master, a guide and Godfather to story writers. He is an inspiration to young writers and poets.”
