Derry Moore: In the Shadow of the Raj
“My initial idea had been to photograph some of the places whose days, I knew, were numbered," wrote photographer Derry Moore about his India project, titled 'A photographer in India'. The 12th Earl of Drogheda, Moore was best known for his work capturing the lives of the European aristorcracy - his potraits of Queen Elizabeth II and the late queen mother are widely celebrated. Moore arrived in India in 1976 and was captivated by the country's magnificent colonial architecture.
Distinguished by blacks, whites and greys that occasionally make way for a gentle flow of colour, Moore uses physical spaces to capture the magical dynamism of the land itself.
Derry Moore: In the Shadow of the Raj is a new exhibition and accompanying photobook produced by Tasveer in association with Dauble, along with an introduciton by Sir Mark Tully. The exhibition includes a selection of 28 black and white photographs of architectural studies, interiors, landscapes and portraits shot by Derry Moore.
