Remembering the bard
The chill in the air welcomed the city’s theatre enthusiasts as they settled down to watch what promised to be an amazing glimpse of literature at Phoenix Arena on Friday. The Cmplt work of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) staged by the group The Lord Chamberlain’s Men had three actors showcase the entire works of William Shakespeare on stage.
The act had an intriguing fusion of an abridged version of Romeo and Juliet, Titus Andronicus as a cookery show, Othello as a rap song, and the rest of the comedies in one convoluted reading, all the histories through a football game, reduced versions of Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra and Macbeth, and ended with Hamlet being performed multiple times, speeding it up every time.
The audience members were glued to their seats, enjoying every bit of the act.
