Turbulence through lens
A photograph speaks a thousand words. Turbulent lens, a photo exhibition going on at the Lalithakala Akademi art gallery, presents a visual journey through the pictures captured by a group of photojournalists. An initiative of the Kozhikode Press Club, the show has 120 pictures taken by 38 photographers.
The pictures reflect the photographers’ trail to capture those intricate moments in life that common men fail to appreciate.
“Every photojournalist is a photographer, but not all photographers are photojournalists. News photography is an entirely different area. We tell a story to the public through each photograph,” says Rajesh Menon, the convener of the exhibition.
“A photojournalist should always be alert to click the right picture. The value of a picture is determined by the message it conveys,” Rajesh explains.
The photos on display reflect the turbulent nature of social issues. They show a different angle of usual events, drawing attention from public. The photos send out emotions like pain, humour, happiness and sadness. “The name itself denotes the very nature of a photojournalist. He is always at work. The camera is his tool like a pen or brush,” says P.J. Shelly, a photojournalist for more than 30 years. The exhibition provides an opportunity for public to revisit certain published photos and to view some rare, unpublished shots. The exhibition will be open till October 17.
