Art of an artisan
The Department of Cultural Affairs, Kerala Lalithakala Akademi and The Seagull Foundation for the Arts have organised an exhibition- Sketches, Scribbles, Drawings by renowned painter, sculptor and muralist late K.G. Subramanyan.
A writer, scholar, teacher and art historian, K.G. Subramanyan was prolific in his art and has demolished the differences between an artist and artisan by doing everything possible from painting to pottery, weaving, making terracotta mural and poetry and glass painting. Subramanyan has seamlessly incorporated folklore, myth, local techniques and stories into his work, which comes from his inclination towards Indian traditions.
The day-long exhibition, which will be held on April 19 at the Durbar Hall Art Gallery, Ernakulam, will be inaugurated by Prof. R. Sivakumar. Kerala Lalithakala Akademi chairman Satyapal will preside over the function. The exhibition is open to public from 11am to 7 pm.
