Impressions of life

Anjani Reddy's exquisite works on display at the Minaaz Art Gallery include some which are on display for the first time ever.

A prolific artist and a true-blue appreciator of all good things that surround her, Anjani Reddy’s show titled Small is beautiful contains water colour works, small canvases and aquarelle (water colour pencils) along with inks on paper rendered by the artist.

Sharing her thoughts about the show, Reddy says, “My water colour works in the show are being exhibited for the first time. I enjoy working with them and exploring the beautiful transparency and multiple gradations they offer. Some of the other works are small canvases. I start by applying thick layers of colour in impasto style and then I draw on them before the paint dries up. The time span is limited and so, I need to work with both precision and spontaneity.” She adds that she finds working on these canvases to be very relaxing.

Anjani Reddy’s works are true reflections of cherished moments and excerpts absorbed by her from day to day life. The figurative compositions are painterly and exemplify mature, fresh and iridescently hued spaces. The line is precise, expressive and fluent. Interestingly, most of her themes are women-centric and unveil the intricate nuances and anecdotes that take place in their lives. Relaxing in the warmth of their surroundings, the protagonists in her works emanate an obvious sense of contentment and harmonious equilibrium that enthralls the viewers.
