Celebration of Indian arts

An Indian classical dance and vocal fest will begin in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow.

Rich days are here again! Bharat Bhavan, in association with the International Performing Art Festival, an agency to promote traditional art and culture in the country, will organise a two-day Indian classical dance and vocal fest in Thiruvananthapuram.

The fest will feature Koodiyattom, Odissi, Mohiniyattom and Bharatanatyam recitals apart from vocal concerts on Friday and Saturday, according to IPAF director Shyam Pandey and Bharat Bhavan secretary Pramod Payyanur.

The festival will be inaugurated by noted poet V. Madhusoodanan Nair. The events on Friday include an hour-long Koodiyattom recital by Margi Sajeev Narayana Chakiar at 6.30 pm followed by Odissi by Devjani Sena, disciple of late Kelucharan Mahapatra.

Day 2 of the fest has more interesting shows charted. After a Mohiniyattom recital by Uma Tapasyananda at 6.30 pm and Bharatanatyam recital by Adithi Ashok at 7.30 pm, a Carnatic vocal concert by Keerthana Ramesh, a disciple of Parassala B. Ponnammal, will be held at 8.30 pm.
