While Marvel broke stereotypes by introducing a Muslim woman Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel and the world's first transgender superhero Chalice, DC is ready to bring in the first ever gay superhero to lead a series in 2017, with an animated series called ‘Freedom Fighters: The Ray’.
Produced by Warner Bros.’ digital studio Blue Ribbon Content, the series will introduce the character as journalist Raymond Ray Terrill, who tries to expose a group of government scientists trying to turn light into a weapon of mass destruction under a secret project.
But before he could report his findings, he is exposed to a genetic light bomb, which doesn’t kill him but gives him powers based on light. He decides to call himself The Ray and fights injustice by going beyond reporting about it.
