Rana Ayyub pours scorn on media's selective blindness'
Kozhikode: Noted journalist Rana Ayyub has lamented that the collective conscience of the country is “half dead” apparently referring to the response of society over the gruesome incidents that occurred in Gujarat in 2002. Speaking at a function organized by the Solidarity youth movement here on Thursday to launch her book, “Gujarat files-Anatomy of a cover up”, the former Tehelka journalist alleged that the media too was complicit by not publishing the truth.
“I don’t know why my media friends did not publish the findings in my book which was revealing. The book is not about Muslims only. Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Chief, during a string operation, unravels the state’s complicity in the murders of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya and Pranesh Kumar,” she pointed out. Later during the interaction, Mrs Ayyub admitted that she was taken aback when Tehelka refused to publish her findings which was painstakingly collected using a sting operation for five years.
“Tehelka’s was the biggest deception. But after the publication of the book, I am receiving feedback which gives me hope. People are now daring to ask questions on the Gujarat model,” she said. As no publication was ready to bring out the book, Rana Ayyub published her own book. KEN Kunjahammad, O. Abdurahman, N.P Rajendran, Gopinathan Pillai were also present.
