Bringing art into homes
The art scene in Hyderabad has always been a vibrant one, with eminent artists and art galleries doing their best to promote their work around India and abroad. One such art avenue is Creatif, a concept design store based in the city. Helmed by Supriya Lahoti, the daughter of Rekha and Prshant of Kalakriti Art Gallery, the store celebrates contemporary arts and traditional crafts.
“Our aim at Creatif is to bridge the gap between artist and consumer and our boutique gives that very opportunity. We want to transform spaces with masterpieces that are made by hand and weave each artisan’s story through the purchases,” says Supriya, adding, “The concept was always in my mind since my college days. Only now that I’ve got everything in place and an amazing team, I am raring to go ahead.”
The art studio is run by an all-ladies team along with Supriya. Madhulika Jhawar is the merchandiser, who sources and curates for the store. Elaborating about what’s in store for us, Madhulika says, “We have collections of jewellery, wellness products, fashion accessories, vintage collectibles, stationery, dining ware, furnishing and décor. Our in-house range of products is designed in collaboration with artists such as Jogen Chowdhury, Surya Prakash, Sushma Thota and Avijit Dutta to name a few. Our design team integrates functionality, aesthetics and quality into every product. Along with our in-house collections, we also house brands that have the same ethos. Our assemblage includes brands like Kesya, The Cobalt Company, Pulp India, The Yarn Story, Rosado Jaipur and Moha by Geetanjali among others.”
Every product made in the store is directly linked to an artist, artisan or product designer — bringing art into one’s personal space — giving it another dimension. There’s the Jogen Chowdhury pen. Staying true to their ethos, Creatif brings this perfect amalgamation off art and functionality. With a 16 GB USB for people on the go, the pen is brilliantly etched with Jogen Chowdhury’s evocative artwork. Similarly, Surya Prakash’s whimsical landscapes are paid homage to on beautiful pieces of home décor. Another interesting art and utility idea is the Map pen, which not only contains a 16 GB USB but also features an original antique map from the Kalakriti Archives.
Supriya and her team are in talks with more artists and are sure of bringing art, in the near future, into all spaces —work or personal — to speak a language of unity and cultural diversity.
