Opening Doors

Avasarshala is an initiative aimed at connecting children with platforms to showcase their talents.

Avasarshala, an initiative for opening up avenues for talented children, has put up a stall at Kochi International Book Festival (KIBF) 2019 being held at Ernakulathappan grounds. A book fair is definitely the perfect occasion to organise something of this sort. They introduce parents and kids to different opportunities and avenues across the globe and online, such as scholarships, arts and sports events and many other programmes.

Avasarshala was formed with the motto that not a single talented individual misses out an opportunity to showcase his/her talent because they don't have enough knowledge about the platforms available worldwide. Although it has been just one-and-a-half months since they launched the initiative, they have already attained wide reach with many online subscribers. They serve many cities of Kerala and other south Indian states.

Ashwathy Venugopal, co-founder of Avasarshala, says she got the idea after she was selected to represent India at Kectil Youth Conference. There, she interacted with many parents and understood that they were not aware of the abundance of opportunities in terms of career and academics available in various parts of the world. She thought of starting something through which she could share her experiences and finally ended up with Avasarshala. Sandeep S., co-founder of Avasarshala and Ashwathy's husband, is her best motivator and mentor in setting up the new venture, she adds.

They focus on kids in the age group 1-12 years. "Parents can identify the talents of their children by encouraging them to participate in various events.

It will help them grab opportunities accordingly," says Ashwathy adding that nowadays parents have a progressive attitude and are more concerned about building up the career of their children. Parents are constantly in search of platforms that will help their child not only in academics but also in boosting up their diverse talents,” she opines. The entrepreneur is of the opinion that there are numerous events taking place globally for children, be it in arts, sports, science, puzzles or others and that one of the most interesting part is that almost all of these events are sponsored and therefore children can participate in them according to their taste and without fearing about the fee. It is also a relief for the parents who cannot always afford each and every competition or an event their child wants to participate in. “Participating in such events helps in molding their career and even changes the perspective of a child right from his/her childhood, which in the present scenario is one of the best things that they can receive,” she concludes.
