Google pays tribute to Sandford Fleming, world time zone inventor
Google doodles are innovative and topical that they just cannot be ignored. While we know many of the people they pay tribute to, the doodle just makes us want to click and find out about the rest. Today's doodle is no different and Google pays tribute to a very important person who gave us time zones
Fleming was a Scottish Canadian inventor who invented the worldwide standard time concept to be used across the world. The idea was formally adopted at the International Prime Meridian Conference in 1884 and is currently in use. The colourful doodle has a steam engine with different clocks showing all the different time zones and a postage stamp with the face of Fleming on it.
The doodle is created by Sophia Diao and highlights Sandford’s achievements in all fields like designing the first Canadian postage stamp and the Intercontinental Railway.
