The 50 years self-imposed ban of dubbing any other language movies into Kannada is likely to have an end. The Kannada dubbed version of Superstar Rajinikanth’s motion captured film Kochadaiiyaan might hit the screens in February. An average grosser at the box-office, the movie marked the debut directorial venture of Rajini’s daughter Soundarya Ashwin, and got released in several languages including Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Marathi, Bhojpuri and Bengali.

Telugu film Mayabazaar was the last film dubbed into Kannada in 1965. Reports suggest that dubbing and post production work of Kochadaiiyaan has already started and the recently formed Dubbing Film Chamber has initiated the effort. Krishne Gowda, president of the DFC, has been keen on dubbing other language films in Kannada.

Reportedly, he said that the film would have a release pattern like any other Sandalwood film — there will be a teaser release followed by audio launch and other promo events. We hear that there is some opposition as well for this move.
