Karnataka Forms Anti-Communal Force to Curb Violence

Home Minister G. Parameshwara said that the necessary manpower and infrastructure will be provided to ensure the Anti-Communal Force begins functioning immediately

BENGALURU: In a bid to curb elements disturbing communal harmony—especially in the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga, which have often witnessed retaliatory murders—the State Government on Wednesday issued a Government Order (GO) to constitute an Anti-Communal Force (ACF), carved out of the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF), said Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara.

"The districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Shivamogga have been tagged as communally sensitive," said the Home Minister, assuring that the State Government will take suitable steps to curb activities that disturb communal amity in these areas.

When asked about the recent back-to-back murders in Dakshina Kannada, Parameshwar remarked, “The peaceful atmosphere has been ruined, leading to the spread of hatred between two communities,” and added, “The State Government cannot turn a blind eye to the prevailing situation. We will put an end to communal disturbances.”

He assured that the necessary manpower and infrastructure will be provided to ensure the Anti-Communal Force begins functioning immediately. “The people of Dakshina Kannada are highly educated, and there is significant scope for development in the district,” he added.

In addition to law enforcement, the Home Minister said peace and community meetings will be conducted to help restore harmony in Dakshina Kannada.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah met MLC and party colleague B.K. Hariprasad at his residence in Bengaluru over breakfast to discuss measures to tackle communal disturbances in Dakshina Kannada.

Speaking to reporters afterward, Siddaramaiah said he had a detailed discussion with Hariprasad and assured, “Stringent action will be taken against those disturbing the peaceful atmosphere, regardless of their stature.”

Later, Hariprasad told reporters that the Chief Minister is very serious about the repeated disturbances to peace and tranquility in Dakshina Kannada.
