Kankhajura, a brand-new web series begins streaming today, May 30, 2025, on SonyLIV. The show is directed by Chandan Arora and produced by Ajay Rai of Jar Pictures. The main cast includes Roshan Mathew as Ashu and Mohit Raina as Max. Important supporting actors are Sarah Jane Dias, Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju, Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Heeba Shah, and Usha Nadkarni. The cinematography is handled by the super talented pair Rajeev Ravi and Vinod Illampally. The background score by Karan Kulkarni is subtle but eerie.

The story takes place in Goa, but instead of showing the usual beaches and sunshine, it shows the darker, mysterious side of the place. Ashu comes home after spending 14 years in jail for a crime he committed as a teenager. His main wish is to reconnect with his older brother Max but both carry heavy baggage from the past. As Ashu tries to start over, strange events unfold. Hidden letters and half-remembered memories push the brothers into a maze of lies and secrets. What really happened? Can the brothers forgive each other before it is too late?

The show is adapted from the Israeli original series Magpie but the Indian version feels fresh because it focuses on Indian family settings and social dynamics. The show sprinkles clues slowly so you feel like detectives. It is a story of guilt, jealousy, trust and redemption.

The pace might feel a bit too slow for some people and the dark mood may not be for everyone. It’s not a fast-moving thriller, it takes its time which is both its strength and its weakness.

The performances in Kankhajura are one of the biggest reasons why the show works so well. Roshan Mathew as Ashu gives a very emotional and deep performance. You can feel the pain and guilt in his eyes, and the way he talks softly shows how careful and broken his character is. Mohit Raina who plays Max is also very strong in his role. Together their scenes are full of emotion. Sarah Jane Dias and Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju give a graceful performance. Heeba Shah and Usha Nadkarni leave a strong impression with their natural acting. None of the performances feel overdone and everyone seems to fit perfectly into the emotional tone of the story.

Kankhajura is a perfect watch if you enjoy shows that make you think and feel. It does not rely on loud action but on deep emotions and clever clues while the spooky Goa setting keeps you hooked. So, grab your popcorn, turn down the lights and get ready to dive into a story full of mystery and emotion that will keep you thinking until the final episode.
