Hyderabad: Ten persons were injured and many taken into custody at a protest on Tuesday where National BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah demanded that the state government fill up 24,000 teachers' posts.
Unemployed youth led by Krishnaiah, a YSRC Rajya Sabha member from AP, tried to lay siege to the education department commissioner's office, demanding the release of a notification to recruit the teachers.
Addressing the gathering, Krishnaiah said that the education minister had announced that a notification would be issued to fill up 5,000 teachers posts while there were 24,000 vacancies. There were no teachers in 12,000 schools to teach mathematics, English, and science, he alleged.
"As per the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report, the government must consider filling up 24,000 vacant teachers posts immediately. The government must take measures to fill up 4,900 vacant teacher posts in aided schools. For the past decades, no teacher has been recruited in aided schools," Krishnaiah said.
He said every school must have a physical education teacher (PET); and there were 10,000 posts vacant in government schools. The government had also failed to recruit junior assistants, he demanded.
