VIJAYAWADA: Education minister Botsa Satyanarayana on Thursday released the list of candidates selected for admissions into various Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT), popularly known as IIITs.

Addressing media here, he said 77 percent of those who secured admissions into these institutes are from government schools and the remaining from private institutions. Even the top 20 ranks have been bagged by students of government and model schools.

RGUKTs had been started to provide IIT-level technical higher education to poor students of rural areas. Admissions into these institutes are made on the basis of marks secured in the 10th Class Examinations in a transparent manner. No recommendations are entertained for admissions into IIITs, the minister underlined.

For convenience of students and parents, steps have been taken to conduct counseling in four RGUKT campuses of the state at Nuzividu in Eluru district, RK Valley at Idupulapaya in YSR district, Etcherla in Srikakulam district and at Ongole. There are total 4,400 seats with 1,100 seats at each campus.

Jallela Nandini Mayuri of Singarayakonda Zilla Parishad School, Prakasam district, ranked first in the open category. Chakrapani Behara of Tekkali Zilla Parishad School in Srikakulam district secured the second rank. Someshetty Phanindra Ramakrishna of Munnangi Zilla Parishad School in Guntur district secured the third rank.

Satyanarayana said results revealed that 66.04 percent seats have been secured by girls and 33.96 percent by boys.

The minister maintained that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is ready to spend any amount on behalf of the government for development of IIITs, whether in terms of infrastructure or other facilities. “Our CM is determined to train poor students of our state as world-class citizens,” he declared.

RGUKT chancellor K.C. Reddy and vice chancellor Professor K. Hema Chandra Reddy said that the list of candidates selected for admissions is available on website www.rgukt.in. Candidates should download their respective hall tickets and call letters from the website before attending the counseling.

Counseling will be held at RK Valley, Idupulapaya campus on October 12 and 13, at Nuzividu campus on October 14 and 15, and at Ongole and Etcherla campuses on October 15 and 16. Classes at the IIITs will commence from October 17.

Directors of IIIT campuses Prof. G.V.R. Srinivasa Rao, Professor B. Jayarami Reddy, Professor P. Jagadishwar Rao, and admissions convener S.S.S.V. Gopalaraju were among those present at the press conference.
