VIJAYAWADA: UGC chairman Prof. D.P. Singh on Friday pointed out that Indian education system is witnessing manifold changes, one such being the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He asked students to update their skills and knowledge for achieving success globally.
Prof. Singh was addressing the 8th Convocation ceremony for 1,866 graduates of Vignan University (VU) as chief guest. Consul General of Republic of Korea, Chennai; Kwon Young-seup was the guest of honour. On the occasion, Sonam Wangchuk, founder director, Student’s Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL), and Veeramachaneni Rama Krishna, Ketogenic dietician, had been conferred Honoris Causa – Honorary doctorates.
The UGC chairman advised students not to follow the crowd, but chart their own path through creative and innovative ideas. In this context, he appreciated that our educational institutions too are offering programmes with high employability and stimulating ambiance.
Prof. Singh maintained that NEP 2020 encourages use of technology for teaching and learning, removing language barriers and increasing access for Divyang students. He asserted that NEP will encourage equity and inclusion in higher education towards creating a digitally empowered nation.
MP and Vignan vice-chairman Lavu Srikrishnadevarayulu called on every student to follow three principles of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of Nation, followed – core values and morals, openness to change, and making most of available opportunities.
VU vice-chancellor M.Y.S. Prasad said: “We need to uplift significant sections of the society from poverty. These challenges can be tackled only by the highly educated sections of society like graduating students of today”.
VU chairman Lavu Rathiah prophesied: “Every student will experience a very different and dramatic world; a world where you will have to balance between two extremities.”
VU chancellor Prof. K. Ramamurthy Naidu asked students to remember 5 Cs – Character, Conviction, Commitment, Creativity, and Capacity, for their overall growth.
