HYDERABAD: Telangana will have GATE exam centres in Adilabad, Kothagudem, Medak and Nalgonda from next year in the IIT-Madras and Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, zone, taking the total number of such units in the state to 11.

The decision to have the four new centres for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) was confirmed on November 20 by the chairman of GATE-JAM committee of IIT-Madras, Rayala Suresh Kumar, for GATE-2023.

The decision came in response to the letter written by Union minister G. Kishan Reddy to Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Reddy sought more centres for the convenience of students from Nizamabad, Adilabad and Gadwal districts.

The GATE exam tests the understanding that students have of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science and its marks are used for admission into the Masters programmes and for job opportunities in public sector companies.
