QS Ranking 2022: IIT-Hyderabad, UoH make the cut, rank among top university
Hyderabad: Higher educational institutions in the state may be churning out graduates each year, and a number of them may be finding employment within the country, but when it comes to global standards of employability the universities figure low in the rankings.
According to the latest worldwide rankings of universities — the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022 — released by the London-based Quacquarelli Symonds, based on the employability of their graduate students, only two public owned institutions in the state, IIT-H, and UoH, make the cut.
While Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad was ranked between 601 and 650, University of Hyderabad was listed at 651 to 700.
Several Indian education institutions figured among the top 500. These include Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (101-110), IIT Delhi (131-140), IIT Madras (151-160), IIT Kharagpur (201-250), IIT Kanpur (251-300), and IIT Roorkee (500).
While Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and University of Mumbai were ranked between 251-300, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and OP Jindal Global University at Sonepat, found a place between the ranks 301 and 500.
Also included in the top 500 were three other Central universities — University of Mumbai, Delhi University and University of Calcutta.
Quacquarelli Symonds on its website said, “as the world recovers from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of graduating with skills and qualities required by modern employers has arguably never been greater.”
It said the universities that were ranked demonstrated an ability to “produce graduates with the 'soft skills' required for the modern workplace. Given the fierce competition for graduate roles around the world, students should be seriously considering how their university can prepare them adequately for full-time employment, by connecting them with global employers and ensuring they develop the necessary skills and knowledge.”
QS considered the following indicators and weightings to calculate the scores for GER 2022--employer reputation (30 per cent), alumni outcomes (25 per cent), partnerships with employers per faculty (25 per cent), employer-student connections (10 per cent) and graduate employment rate (10 per cent).
