AP Central university invites public wrath for ignoring roster
ANANTAPUR: AP Central university is in the eye of a storm for ignoring roster in filling of faculty posts and continuing a few faculty members on deputation.
Central University of Andhra Pradesh (CUAP) was inaugurated through the Union Council of Ministry’s resolution in August 2018. Though the university was sanctioned Rs 900 crore towards establishment of a permanent campus, sufficient funds were released during the previous two budgets. The state government allotted 400 acres of land for the Central university near Janthalur village in BK Samudram mandal.
Even after three years, no new courses were introduced in the prestigious university and it runs with faculty on deputation from other institutions and contract basis. It reportedly failed to ensure standards of national level. The Regular Vice Chancellor was appointed last year while no regular registrar has been appointed so far.
Meanwhile, the existing faculty is unable to meet minimum standards in existing courses and a Telugu professor is working on deputation from Kurnool for the past three years while a professor from Varanasi University was not provided an opportunity to work for a second consecutive year.
Varsity is running in a temporary building of JNTUA and offering a few courses in B.A. (Hons), Political Science, B.Sc. (Hons), Economics and PG courses. The experts and student unions pointed out the dean of any faculty should be a working senior professor but a retired professor was posted in the key post. “Though every department should have at least one senior working professor, retired persons and lecturers are in the posts,” they alleged and added that the students were facing hostel problems as they were accommodated in temporary buildings.
The university authorities recently issued notification to fill 30 assistant professors’ posts in five departments on ad hoc basis. However, it is noticed that the university has not been following a roster system for the five posts reportedly for protecting the deputed faculty to continue in the posts. A group of unemployed youths is planning to file a writ petition against ignoring roster points.
